“We always want what we don’t have” how many times have you heard someone say this? You have straight hair and you want it super curly or vice versa. Let’s take the time to get to know and love our own natural texture! If your hair is super straight let’s try using a volumizing mouse or texture spray to enhance some texture or body in your naturally beautiful straight hair! We often feel like our hair “doesn’t do anything” when its naturally straight so utilizing things like a volume shampoo and styling products can also help to add some texture or movement. Another great thing we can do is add some colour into our hair when we colour our hair it naturally expands the individual hair strands so your hair may feel fuller and give you a bit more versatility when it comes to styling. If you have frizzy hair there is so much you can do to help this! First let’s focus on making sure your hair is very moisturized now I know that sounds like it would mean “oily” or “heavy” but in order to reduce frizz we need to make sure our hair feels loved and hydrated. A weekly hair mask at home will help with this as well as a hydrating leave in conditioner, my favorite is the Moisture Kick Hyaluronic leave in conditioner. This product has moisture locking technology to ensure moisture is there to stay! Now that we’ve hydrated your hair we can use a series of products to enhance those waves, start by applying a curl cream on your freshly washed hair I usually suggest to twirl some pieces around your face to set them as they dry this way the product will help to enhance curls and weigh down any frizz! Now for all my curly haired ladies lets follow the same rule as our frizzy friends because we all know curly hair can be frizzy! Let’s make sure we are keeping up with a moisturizing routine. I often hear so many curly clients tell me they don’t like their curls or the way it dries naturally so let me make a few suggestions to you so we can enhance and love our natural curl or wave. I always like to suggest to my clients with curly or wavy hair the importance of supporting those natural waves on curly days. On shower days try brushing your hair before you shower or simply comb right after you rinse your conditioner when the hair is wet enough to bounce back. When your hair is wet right out of the shower scrunch your hair with a towel lightly and apply your curl product with a scrunching motion, using a generous amount of product. Take your problem areas (usually around the face and top parting) and in small sections twirl your hair around your fingers to set it. You can then allow you to dry naturally or take moisture out with a diffuser. My suggestion with diffusing your hair is to never dry it fully use your diffuser until you might notice areas are starting to look frizzy. When you start to feel it frizzing up let the air do the rest of the drying! How often do you wash your hair? It’s good to let your hair produce its natural oils so our hair and scalp can benefit from them. Over washing your hair can lead to a dry scalp as well as dry hair. Contrary to belief you can train your hair to slow down the over production of oil. By extending an extra day without washing we are able to “train our scalp” to slow down the production of oil. Yes, the first few times you do it your hair might feel “dirty” or “oily” but over time your hair and scalp will adjust! We all know an extra day without washing and styling your hair is a treat! I know there are tones of ways for us to style and do our hair but these are just a few of my suggestions. Starting the new year off right!
January is a great time to look through your beauty products and evaluate what is being used and what is old. Most products have 2-year expiry date, but we suggest that with organic products you dispose of after a year regardless of if the product is empty. WHY??? Organic products such as Eminence have no chemical preservatives. For optimal performance, the FDA (food and drug administration) recommends mascara be tossed every few months due to the higher risk of bacteria in the eye area.
We have some tips and tricks for getting the most out of your beauty products this year.
• All of Eminence Jars include a spatula to avoid contamination instead of scooping out with your fingers. It also has a small groove to remind you that a little amount goes a long way. Most of Eminence products need less than a dime size amount.
• Make sure to close all lids tight to ensure product isn’t drying out and remains fresh especially if stored in the shower area where water might get into container
• Evaluate what you have all of Tangles products are guaranteed when recommended by a Tangles team member, so if something isn’t working talk to the staff member. A small adjustment like the amount you are using could make the difference between loveing it and hateing it.
• Tangles offers “style like a pro” blow-dry lessons a 30 min blow-dry service that your stylist will recommend products and give you tips and tricks. You can also choose to get involved with your lesson and bring your own tools and products, so we can replicate the style with what you have to use at home. We also offer makeup lessons and skin care analysis with the same service. Often times one product can have multiple uses and we can show you when to use it and how to apply it. We can show you how to get longevity out of a product customized for you.

Protecting your skin under the sun!
